Department of Botany Organized a Smart Farming IoT-based Class on Soil Moisture Sensing

The Department of Botany, Baselius College, Kottayam, organized an innovative session titled “When to Water Plants? – Integrating Botany with Electronics” on 28th May 2025. The session was led by Mr. Nibu B. Thomas, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics.

The interactive class introduced students to the concepts of Smart Farming and the use of IoT (Internet of Things) in monitoring soil moisture levels for efficient water management. Participants learned how electronic sensors and Arduino-based systems can be used to determine the ideal time for watering plants, thus promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
