Postgraduate Department of Economics and Centre for Research

Established in 1967, the Department of Economics evolved from a foundational undergraduate unit into a distinguished Research Department in 2023. Inspired by the visionary leadership of Rev. Fr. Prof. K. V. Paulose, the Department continues to uphold a proud tradition of intellectual rigor, innovation, and social commitment. We offer comprehensive B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. programmes that seamlessly integrate strong theoretical foundations with practical application, enabling students to transform academic insight into meaningful professional achievement. Our academic infrastructure includes modern, technology-enabled classrooms, a well-stocked library with over 2,500 volumes, and a specialized computer laboratory that equips students with expertise in statistical software, econometric analysis, and advanced data analytics tools essential in today’s data-driven economy.

We actively bridge the gap between classroom learning and global discourse through our flagship International Conclave on Climate Change, a vibrant platform that brings together scholars, policymakers, researchers, and thought leaders to deliberate on pressing environmental and economic challenges. Complementing this initiative is our prestigious Commemorative Lecture Series, featuring renowned economists who stimulate critical thinking and broaden global perspectives.

To ensure professional readiness, the department offers structured job-oriented courses and Capability Enhancement Programmes designed to sharpen analytical skills, communication abilities, research competence, digital proficiency, and leadership qualities. The Department also serves as a dynamic hub for professional development, maintaining strong collaborations with leading organizations such as the Centre for Continuing Education, Government of Kerala (CCEK) and KELTRON. These partnerships ensure that our curriculum remains aligned with evolving industry demands and technological advancements.

To further enhance employability and career readiness, we offer specialized add-on programmes alongside our core degrees:

Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Diploma in Computer Applications

Certificate Course in Data Analytics

These programmes provide practical exposure and hands-on expertise, giving our students a decisive competitive advantage. Our alumni have secured several important roles, including successful placements through campus recruitment at Federal Bank and South Indian Bank.

We firmly believe that education flourishes both inside and beyond the classroom. We nurture a diverse group of individuals through academic seminars, extension activities, community outreach programmes, sports meets, and cultural festivals.

Our vibrant alumni network stands as a testament to the department’s enduring impact. Our alumni include distinguished civil service officers, administrators, policymakers, judges, advocates, teachers, bishops, priests, researchers, academicians, entrepreneurs, influential public servants, and industry leaders.

Today, the Department of Economics remains a thriving academic community dedicated to mentoring future economists, policymakers, researchers, and business leaders—professionals equipped not only with knowledge, but with vision, integrity, and global awareness.
